Mozilla's Weave is splitting off an identity extension that will offer quite a bit of the features you quote in this article. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Labs/Weave/Identity/Account_Manager

Given that for the most part we're choosing an identifier more than an identity, and that many sites (like Facebook) are now smart enough to let us have identities which transcend our personal ones, yeah, I don't see the point. As you say, it's an extremely small portion of our use case, and I now just add extra accounts to my computers when I let someone else use them because there's a lot more than just my sign-ons that I want to keep from exposing to guest users.

I think more important than selectors are rules for how long we remain log in from different access modes. For instance, for the most part (ie: everything but banking) I don't ever want to log out from my iPhone because I never want to have to enter a password again on that silly excuse for a keyboard (or, as long as I'm still entering passwords, have to carry around a sheet of paper with all of them on it: Too many phishing attempts recently to use common passwords. Sigh). I regularly have two machines on my desktop that I'd like to have logged in to sites.

Several sites (I'm looking at you, Twitter) are aggressive about signing me off if I sign on from another computer, which is extremely annoying. I can work around it with clients, but that kills their potential advertising revenue.

Sorry, just a couple disjointed thoughts, while waiting for a compile, I'll try to be more coherent in a bit.
