Yeah, this is part of why I’m thinking the next social media thing won’t happen on the web. 90% of my traffic these days is bots, and even the search bots don’t respect the robots.txt or do smart things.
Won’t whatever the next thing is have the exact same problems, just with a different protocol?
I think the protocol is key: something peer-to-peer that has a notion of archival and distributed built into it.
I also like some of the ideas that Bryan Warner was playing with with PETMail way back in the day, with the notion of introductions involving third parties, so you could have trusted people who could introduce portions of the web, and revoke trust both from the vouchers, and from individual.
So I’m thinking something like ipfs, although I don’t think that in its current incarnation that deals with tiny snippets very well. Passing around some unencrypted and some encrypted files. I’m still thinking through how keys should work for restricted content, but I’d like to be able to send things to just family, for instance…
