Mary first used the term publicly in a podcast from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eclab.byu.edu\/workshops\/iiw2005\/announcement.html\" target=\"_blank\">IIW 2005<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since, Yahoo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ysearchblog.com\/archives\/000214.html\" target=\"_blank\">picked up<\/a> the term, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.demo.com\/demoletter\/tagworld_opens_social_commerce_to_members.php\" target=\"_blank\">assorted startups<\/a> use it and many people <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/search\/%22social+commerce%22\" target=\"_blank\">blog about it<\/a> all the time as it seems.<\/p>\n<p>Score one for Paul and Mary for anticipating yet another important new trend &#8230; currently, they are most visible as leading the <a href=\"http:\/\/eclipse.org\/higgins\/\" target=\"_blank\">Higgins<\/a> digital identity open-source project to which they have attracted heavyweights IBM, Novell and others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just found out that the term &quot;Social Commerce&quot; was coined by Mary Ruddy in a conversation with Paul Trevithick.
