First Yadis/LID/OpenID Wiki Spam

Another indication that Yadis/LID/OpenID is taking off: today, rss-extensions.org, one of the wikis that we run at NetMesh, was defaced with spam by a user who authenticated himself through OpenID.

For eternity, let it be know that it was http://oriflame1.livejournal.com/; his "contribution" involved the usual assortment of drugs (mostly), sex and ringtones. I think we’ve seen his (or her!) spam posts on our wikis for some time; today is the first time he used a URL-based identity that he probably created just for this purpose.

Once the spammers start adopting a new technology you know that it must have promise ;-) In this case, however, as we keep building up the Yadis stack, the promise is not going to evolve in a direction that spammers would like.

The problem won’t be solved tomorrow, and very possibly not this year, but the pieces are beginning to look like they are coming together. Stay tuned …
