Some interesting tidbits from HealthCamp

Health Camp was interesting today. Thanks for organizing it. I’m looking forward to the next one!

I’m not entirely clear who it was who put this information on the white board, but I thought it was interesting. On the question "how much information related to healthcare is available in electronic form":

Consumer Data ?
Physician Notes 15%
Physician Transcripts 50%
Lab Claim Results 60%
Med / Hospital Claims 80%
RX claims 90%

Also, we discussed likely (successful) disruptors of the healthcare system in the US, and I asked the people present in this session to vote on the top-two disrupters over the next few years. Note that all other candidate disruptors (e.g. health insurers) weren’t ignored, they didn’t make it on the short-list.

employers / government (driven by cost pressures) 5 votes
“offshore” care (driven by business opportunities perceived by outside providers) 5 votes
consumers (to improve health, reduce cost) 8 votes
physicians 0 votes
alternative medicine 0 votes
informaiton services companies 6 votes

Of course, this was by no means a representative survey of any kind. But it is interesting nevertheless. Everybody attending had good knowledge of the current state of the system, so it’s not an uninformed survey either.
